This is in Paula Deen's cook book and everyone raves when I cook them.
1.  use a vidallia onion or another sweet onion
2. peel the outer layer off, cut off the top of the onion.  Leave the root of the onion on, this holds the onion together when cooking.
3. core the top of the onion with a spoon or mellon baller(down to the middle of the onion)
4. cut the onion into a X but don't go all the way to the bottom.  About 3/4 to the root.
5. put a beef bulllon cube in the center that was cored and mash butter to the top of the onion.
6.  put a pad of butter in each of the slats that you cut (X).
7.  place in foil and wrap with a foil stem at the top to hold all the juices
8.  350 for 45 minutes on the grill

Just like french onion soup when done,  sooo good!
