Isn't fish smoking a cold smoke like bacon?

I was under the impression that it could be done both ways.
The salmon would surely cook fast though if smoked normally and not cold. Which brings me to an interesting question. how low of a temp. can you get a smoker that is not a cold smoker?
I assume that the smoke itself is at a pretty warm temp.
