Here is my all-time favorite dry rub for pork butt.
All-South Barbecue Rub
Recipe By : The Thrill of the Grill by Chris Schlesinger
2 Tablespoons salt
2 Tablespoons sugar
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
2 Tablespoons ground cumin
2 Tablespoons chili powder
2 Tablespoons black pepper -- freshly cracked
1 Tablespoon cayenne pepper
4 Tablespoons paprika
All you do is throw them together and mix them well.

That is one of my favorites also, but I only use it for ribs. On butt's I use a thin coat of yellow mustard followed by a good covering of salt and pepper.

Sounds like a good basic rub. Unless someone else can come up with something more interesting, I think I'll try this rub.
Thanks Steve...again, I'll inform all of you with the results.

JameZ get you a copy of Smoke and Spice, the most tattered book in my collection. A great barbecue cook book for anyone.
